چکیده

Background The improvement in anaerobic exercise capacity associated with supplementation with creatine monohydrate (CrM) has been well established. Extracts of Russian Tarragon (RT) have been reported to produce antihyperglycemic effects [1] and influence plasma creatine levels during the ingestion of CrM [2]. Theoretically, RT ingestion may enhance creatine retention and thereby promote greater ergogenic benefit compared to CrM supplementation alone. The purpose of this study was to determine if short-term, low-dose aqueous RT extract ingestion prior to CrM supplementation influences anaerobic sprint performance.

Effects of short-term ingestion of Russian Tarragon prior to creatine monohydrate supplementation on whole body and muscle creatine retention: a preliminary investigation

Background It has been well-established that creatine monohydrate (CrM) increases whole body creatine retention and muscle creatine content. Theoretically, RT ingestion with CrM may promote greater creatine retention than ingesting ...

The effects of creatine supplementation with and without an Extract of Artemisia dracunculus on resistance training adaptations: preliminary findings

Background Co-ingesting creatine (5 g) with large amounts of glucose (e.g., 95 g) has been shown to enhance creatine and carbohydrate storage in muscle. It has been speculated that creatine transport is mediated in part by glucose and insulin. The increases in creatine retention are accompanied by an undesired caloric load and as a result, additional research has been undertaken to assess the e...

The effect of Russian Tarragon (artemisia dracunculus L.) on the plasma creatine concentration with creatine monohydrate administration

Background It has previously been shown that the plasma concentration of creatine following supplementation is influenced by extracellular concentrations of insulin and glucose, the form in which creatine is administered, and also the creatine concentration in the muscle cells. The common practice of raising insulin levels to increase initial uptake into muscle, by means of high amounts of gluc...

Effect of low-dose, short-duration creatine supplementation on anaerobic exercise performance.

To examine the efficacy of a low-dose, short-duration creatine monohydrate supplement, 40 physically active men were randomly assigned to either a placebo or creatine supplementation group (6 g of creatine monohydrate per day). Testing occurred before and at the end of 6 days of supplementation. During each testing session, subjects performed three 15-second Wingate anaerobic power tests. No si...
